70s and 80s
‘Gozzos’, workboats, ‘Pilot-boats’ for sports fishing, passenger boats, all of them 48" wooden hulls, have been landmarks in the technical and creative evolution that in the ‘70s led to the creation of five 36" wood catamarans which are universally famous for the complexity of the solutions they featured. Sciallino has always represented the ideal balance between old Ligurian shipbuilding traditions and modern nautical needs, the meeting point between the ancient seafaring civilization and sports and tourist boating. Sciallino have become a legend, set the standards and keep embodying that ideal, as old as the gozzo is, which we can simply call seaworthiness.

The strength and convenience of fiberglass (polyester resin reinforced with glass fibers), together with its minimal maintenance requirements, have recently made it the material of choice over wood. The apparent ‘easiness’ of fiberglass has deceived many companies that, though lacking in experience, have ventured in waters unknown to them. The ancient knowledge the Maestro has is precious for creating wooden hulls and decks which are then polished according to tradition. These life-size prototypes are used to create the ‘negatives’ for fiberglass boats. The quality of these moulds is obvious when we examine the finished product.
